Happy November Supermoon from Dog Cove, Florida! ❤️

Happy Full Moon from Dog Cove, Florida!

Hello from the Crazy DogCatChicken Lady who hasn't sent a newsletter out since, I dunno. July, I think? Nemo's birthday, I believe.

One of the little spots I used to take my 140 lbs dog child was to a very shallow section of the cove near me where he had a grand time splashing at low tide when the water in this section was maybe a foot or so deep. He'd play for over an hour chasing the little fishes around, and just having a blast.

So, a quick update: The big creative project I dedicated my full time and energy to all this year stayed not only ahead of schedule, I actually exceeded my original goal and accomplished 3X MORE than what I originally set out to do this year.

All the years spent as a volunteer manager at various nonprofits over the years, I have definitely loved helping people step out of their comfort zones and try something they may have only privately dreamt of doing, but were too shy or afraid to actually go ahead and do.

My spiritual gifting has always been as an encourager, so I'm pretty sure that was a big help cat herding volunteer staff and participants.

I love writing, always have, and while it was well-applied in school and at work, I always wrote creative stories and essays, just for myself pretty much. Maybe as a blog post occasionally. A lot of them are still on an old portable hard drive.

Determined to kick the last of chemo brain melt to the curb once and for all, a year ago it occurred to me to list out stuff I thought I was pretty good at to figure out what I want to be when I grow up (since I'm not dead yet, so there's still time).

Expecting it to point back to art or music, my inner voice pointed to my love of writing, and I had been running into some key folks in writing circles all of last year who encouraged me and who I'll talk about next time in case my tale today gets any of you thinking about this, too.

Finally decided to let myself run with it this year, and once I gave myself permission and set a deadline to complete it or move on, the creativity flowed and poured out.

The idea I put to my creative writing self was:

  1. What if I took my fave things about the different places I've lived and created my ideal little small town filled with the best things I loved?
  2. What if I also took inspiration from all the gazillion people - children through the elderly - I've encountered over the years, and of course all the pets, too, and imagined what our collective life in that little spot on the map was like?

Well, I did it, and while my goal was to write a full story to just see where it went, maybe even a whole novel, with the stipulation it must be finished & ready to put out to the world before my birthday over the summer or else just set the idea of writing for publication aside, I wrote 3 full-length novels so far and have no plans to stop since I've already got the next 4 mapped out ready to be written.

Started writing Book 4 two days ago, but then it dawned me that writing and publishing without telling anybody was no different than just keeping the old stories on my portable hard drive. Publishing them means I'm intending them to get read by humans other than myself.

Soooooo.......

The first three novels in the
Dog Cove Chronicles
have been published, and more will be following! 🎉

Coming of age with 30-somethings through 70s, multi-generation family businesses and family legacy in a small, close-knit community where family is best defined as those who care about you and support you no matter what.

My books are uplifting about the amazing resilience of the human spirit. Those who have known me some time have told me while they were reading, they could almost hear my voice, so I'm pretty proud my heart & soul come through in the storytelling.

So, you - or anyone you know - enjoy the 'clean & wholesome romance' and 'small town' categories, to please consider checking out my debut of these full-length novels:
Kindle Unlimited as ebooks or
Paperback, they're 300-ish pages,
right around 120K words.

Book descriptions & more are on my BigBlackDogStudio.com
along with the link to the series on Amazon.

All the years I loved working with Middle Schoolers and High Schoolers, all those church groups and nonprofits - Miss Ryan still doesn't write naughty stuff! LOL

My books are sweet and swoony, not hot chili peppers, no violence, crime or psycho thriller stuff - because, did I mention Suzy Sunshine loves her old Middle and High Schoolers with Middle and High Schoolers now of their own, and last thing I want is for any of them I cared about to think I had some hidden side they didn't know about it! LOL

Dog Cove Chronicles titles so far are:

  1. Go With the Flow (published 6/20/24)
  2. Drawn Together (published 9/3/24)
  3. Off the Deep End (published 11/11/24)
  4. Room for Love (estimated for 2/14/25)
  5. Puppy Love in Paradise
  6. Old Dogs, New Tricks

If you read them and DO enjoy them, I would be soooooooo grateful for positive reviews to help them get noticed in search results for others to find! Even just starring them up on Amazon, Goodreads, and wherever else you normally read would be greatly appreciated! ❤️

There is so much competition, the more glowing reviews you post to support your favorite authors, the better chance they have of getting into the hands of new readers. Just a side note is y'all can't say you know me (if you do) or else apparently Amazon thinks those are phony reviews and won't post them.

Okay, then! Have a lovely Thanksgiving holiday, folks!

"Don't care who the sperm donor was, an' you don't need to either... You gotta lotta people care about you here. People who love you. That's what family is. Genetics ain't got nothing to do with it." ❤️ I hope you enjoy my writing and its uplifting focus on no matter what path you traveled to get you to today, you get a say in creating the next chapter of your own life's fairy tale. ❤️ After 4 decades as a creative program director, professional volunteer manager, animal Reiki practitioner, and loss & grief counsellor, I have worked with children through the elderly and have been blessed to watch many real-life transformations around me. ❤️ I've led mostly volunteer workforces and have learned more about human nature, emotion, and healing than was ever taught to me in an academic program. ❤️ Whether you found my stories of love and resilience first in the Dog Cove Chronicles series, my silly Middle School humor books, my stories and articles from decades past, or even my pet "pawtraits" on social media under my art studio persona, I'm very happy you're here right now. ❤️ My gifting is first and foremost as an encourager and empowerer of others. I try to put that into every story and article I write, and I also hope it comes through in everything that I do. ❤️ Suzy xoxox

Simple: Channel your mourning into a creative project which honors not only their memory, but uplifts others with its positive vibe! Happy Birthday to Nemo July 5, 2010 - August 10, 2018 How has it been six years since Eenie Meenie MyNemo passed away? It's been a blur, especially coming on the heels of me thinking I had gotten past the trauma of chemo and surgery, but the body holds that stuff in way too long unless you do some serious effort to purge it. Sure, drawing pet portraits has...

Dog Cove Chronicles

Getting chemo for the Big 5-0 birthday kind of knocked the wind out of me. Took a good long while, and I'm sure a few existential crises to finally sit myself down and ask what did I always want to do before I hit the Big 6-0 or a Stage 4 surprise creeps up ever again and takes options away from me altogether? Then the next question that was the loudest it's ever been shouted at me demanding an answer: So what "thing" on my dreams & bucket list was I actually going to say damn the torpedoes...
